Creative Therapies Boost Wellbeing

At Rowanbrook Care Home, we take pride in offering enriching and purposeful activities that support the mental and physical well-being of our residents.

Arts and crafts are more than just a fun way to pass the time—they are an excellent tool for promoting wellbeing and encouraging creativity. Here at Rowanbrook, we use creative therapy to engage our residents in activities that are both stimulating and enjoyable, helping them to connect with others and express themselves in meaningful ways.

Recently we’ve enjoyed cake decorating, paper crafts, drawing, and painting. These sessions give us the chance to get hands-on and focused and working together in groups or comparing our individual efforts is something we can all enjoy, combining social connection with the enjoyment of the task.

We believe that creative activities work well as a therapy because (with some adjustments where needed) they’re accessible for all and they offer a multitude of positive effects for the mind and body.

  • Arts and crafts keep the brain active, helping residents to stay mentally engaged.
  • These activities offer a calming, positive experience, reducing stress and boosting happiness.
  • Group activities help us to bond with others over shared experiences, in a fun and relaxed setting.
  • These types of activities encourage us to use our hands so they help us to maintain hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

Meaningful, creative activities can make daily life more enjoyable for our residents, giving them the chance to express themselves, bond with their peers and carers, and experience the joy that comes with being creative.
