Mindfulness is more than a buzzword. It’s a simple and accessible tool that we can all use to help reduce stress, improve focus, and support our wellbeing. At Rowanbrook Care Home, we integrate mindfulness techniques into daily life.
We give our residents opportunities to take part in calming and restorative activities that support both their mental and physical health.
The importance of mindfulness for mental health
For our residents, particularly those with complex needs, moments of mindfulness can create a sense of peace and stability. From breathing exercises to creative activities, mindfulness offers a simple way to ease stress and encourage focus. It brings a sense of calm to the day, it can also be an enjoyable way to wind down.
Creative activities encourage a ‘Flow State’
One of the most effective ways to encourage mindfulness is through activities that engage our hands and mind at the same time. A recent example of this was a recent stitching activity our residents took part in. With its repetitive motion, sewing creates a calming flow state. This focused, peaceful activity encourages relaxation. It’s also a nice outlet for self-expression and it even provides a gentle cognitive workout.
Enhancing Wellbeing Through Small Daily Moments
Mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated. At Rowanbrook, we encourage simple mindful moments. Whether it’s enjoying a cup of tea in the garden and really observing the sights and sounds of nature or taking a moment to enjoy a calming activity – small but meaningful experiences help our residents feel present, engaged, and at ease.
We weave mindfulness into everyday life, to offer our residents a greater sense of wellbeing.
